Easy Blues Solo Fingerstyle

Playing the Blues is fantastic. This session is ideal for relative beginners although there’ll be some bits in there to satisfy low intermediate players as well.

In this session we’ll be learning a straight-forward Blues solo fingerstyle arrangement in E major. It uses standard chords over some slow, basic Travis picking. It’s a self-contained, standalone piece to noodle around with but has oodles of room for embellishment or maybe hone as a nice-and-easy performance piece.

What will we be covering?

In this lesson we’ll look at a relatively simple Blues arrangement in E major; this is squarely aimed at  beginner levels. It’s a piece you can noodle around with or maybe use as a performance tune.

It’ll use standard open E, A and B7 chords (I, IV, V) with a couple of other basic chords thrown in to add to the blues feel.

Slow, basic Travis picking will feature along with a country-esque intro. To the uninitiated, Travis picking means using your thumb to pluck alternate bass strings (while your other fingers provide a taste of chords with a simple melody line on top). We’ll take it slowly and explain moving from chord to chord.

For the slightly more advanced players, palm muting, hammer-ons, pull-offs and double stops could be liberally peppered over it.

Who’s this session suitable for?

The course is suitable for relative beginners. If you know the I, IV and V(7) chords in E major then you’ll be able to strum along but it’s a beginner fingerstyle arrangement. Ideally you should already have at least tried a little fingerpicking but this is a great tune to get you started down that path.  Acoustic and electric guitar players are both fine for this lesson.
