Improvers - Grooving

Take your playing to the next level. Get grooving!

We’ll be looking at barres, triads, hanging on a chord, cool rhythms, using dynamics, mixing in licks and fills, fingerpicking, bass movement, important know-how (CAGED system and Circle of 5ths), basic soloing ideas and how to practise properly.

So – we’re covering ‘the works’ to help you improve your own playing and the ability to play with others.

What we’ll be covering?

The course is aimed at taking your playing to the next level: harmony, melody, rhythm, technique and theory/know-how. It’s a structured day with a mix of group playing and learning how to play together properly.

At a glance

The course will cover multiple genres and styles with classic songs to add to your repertoire (Blues, Pop, Rock, Folk, Country and maybe even Jazz, Reggae and more). But really the course is about improving playing skills, building confidence and helping you to enjoy playing the guitar.

As we go, we’ll revise the basics but the focus is on taking things to the next level in terms of:

  • Increasing your chord vocabulary (barres, triads and how to find them on the fretboard easily)
  • Looking at different rhythms in terms of strumming and fingerpicking patterns
  • Exploring essential techniques such as: strumming, picking, fingerpicking, dynamics, how to hang on a chord (substitute chords, adding in little fills, expanding with progressions, adding in bass line movement between chords, using a capo, etc.)
  • Soloing – getting started with confidence
  • Know-how essentials: CAGED, the L shape, The Circle of 5ths
  • Add some great songs to your repertoire
  • Providing practice idea and regimes for each aspect
  • Maybe even touch on playing and singing at the same time!

The idea is to keep ‘theory’ to an abolute minimum and focus on the practical aspects of improving your playing and make it more interesting and a little more pro-sounding.
