We’ll learn comping patterns commonly used in various styles of Jazz with lots of examples to take away and practice. Learn quarter and eighth note regular, off beat and syncopated rhythm patterns with recognisable chord progressions used in jazz standard repertoire.
Specifically, we’ll be using ii, V I progressions from Jazz standards such as ‘All the things you are’, ‘Summer Time’ and a Latin Jazz progression from ’Blue Bossa’.
High Beginner to Intermediate acoustic or electric guitar.
You should know basic barre chords and be able to play with a plectrum although strumming with fingers-only is doable).
The session is 60 minutes long; don’t expect to master everything during the session. The tutor will go through all the key parts, demonstrating them and discussing the associated techniques and know-how.
The real work is done by you afterwards. Armed with the materials (PDFs, backing tracks and video recording), you’ll have all the tools to work on things at your own pace.
