What gear you use and how it is set up is a massive subject and impossible to cover in a single session; no doubt we’ll return to this in later sessions.
We’re talking guitars, leads, FX pedals, pre-amps, amps, speakers, etc. Which to choose for what style (Jazz to Rock, etc.), for what purpose e.g. gig, home playing, recording yourself (although this is a later subject for a Music Corner).
Jamie will talk us through some aspects of what he uses, how he tweaks things for the job at hand. He’ll maybe relate it to: doing a Zoom lesson or performing a free Facebook Live concert (which he is doing on Fri 30 Apr at 8pm to celebrate International Jazz Day!) or doing one of his gigs with his band and using his own material.
He’ll undoubtedly mention dos and don’ts that he has picked up over the years so that you can adapt the principles the gear you already have!
Everyone will get something out of this session – it builds on knowing your chords in a key (probably as numbers rather than just names), being able to master the barre, learning notes on fretboard, etc.
Overview of our Music Corners
These weekly one hour sessions are designed to give us the tools to self-improve and widen our knowledge in the following general areas: rhythm, reading music, improvising, understanding music theory, getting good tone, how to play a solo, how to play with a group, how to develop your ear, learning the rules of music through transcribing the history of a genre. Our tutor, Jamie McCredie, will share key things he has learned over years that have helped to make him the professional guitarist and musician he is today.
Materials:
Relevant materials will be available for each session.
