Little and Often #2 (FREE)

This series of short sessions are FREE and will look at a variety of subjects with a focus on providing ideas for warm-ups and exercises to add into your daily practice.

This session (#2) builds on #1  where we looked at the chromatic scale and exercises for learning in, and the fretboard. #2  explores the major scale and the triads that come directly from the major scale. We’ll also assess how to go about changing cleanly between the chords.

What we’ll be covering in this session #2

The idea behind these short sessions is to review technical aspects and recommend exercises you can build into a daily routine. The subject matter is fluid in that some subjects can be added in or amended based on feedback from previous session(s).

Here we take the 12 notes of the chromatic scale and distil them down to the 7 notes of the major scale – the major scale is base and reference for all other scales. We won’t be bringing in an chord theory but we’ll look at the triads of the major scale and how to move between them cleanly.

Strumming or picking chords while changing them can be challenging and often leads to:

  • buzzy/dead sounding notes in the chords
  • that dreaded time gap between chords – just can’t make the chord on beat 1
  • generally feeling uncomfortable and being out of control

We’ll look at approaches/strategies to help resolve these issues. We’ll focus mostly on open chords (barre chords will be mentioned for the more intermediate players).

Objective: to spell out practical exercises for you to build into your daily practice.

Who’s this session suitable for?

These sessions will be layered so that they’re of interest to, as well as push/stretch, beginner and  intermediate players.

Home practice

These sessions are short so don’t expect to master everything during the session. Pick up what you can during the session and we can look at going over things later.
