What we’ll be covering in this Session

Here we’ll be learning sections of some of Fleetwood Mac’s classic songs and delving into the techniques required to play them properly. The signature sections of each of the following songs will be covered in detail:

RHIANNON
This one is a brilliant exercise for practicing double stops while keeping a constant bass root note
going throughout. Use the thumb for the bass note and index and middle fingers for the melody. It
is a little tricky to get the brain to do exactly what’s needed so work on this slowly.
For a little variety you can do a basic finger style pattern in the bridge.

LANDSLIDE
This is one of the most beautiful acoustic songs. A simple chordal pattern that will let you properly
focus on your picking hand technique. What we want here is a relaxed feel, with the thumb walking
across the different bass strings. Also think carefully about the fingerings you will use in the fretting
hand. We want to set ourselves up for the easiest transitions possible, and if that means keeping fingers down between shapes then that’s what you should do. When your chorus starts use the suggested strumming patterns as a way to keep a flowing feel. Remember to get that proper rhythmic feel by playing the bass note on beat one and then the high strings only for the remaining beats. The tied 1/8th notes give us a more musical approach
to the guitar groove.

EVERYWHERE
This is a very good piece for practicing secure, strong and accurate rhythmic strumming.
We also add into the mix some little licks. By doing this we are showing you how to take two
guitar parts and morph them into one. Plus, who doesn’t want to be able to mix some licks
into their rhythmic playing.

THE CHAIN
Every Fleetwood Mac lover should learn this song. But be aware that it comes with a number of challenges. On the original recording there are multiple layered guitar parts so we need to create our own approximation of those as a singular player. This requires intricate finger style patterns and being clever about your chord shapes so that you get the best possible outcome.
